Sizing inclusivity

NewsCoralie Grillet

There's a major conversation happening at the moment in the sewing community about sizing and size inclusivity. And it's been amazing to read about all your stories and how we can make our community a better, more inclusive one.

Talking about size inclusivity and our sewing patterns size range on Wearologie.com

Because it's a truly important topic and one that's such a significant part of why so many of us started to sew, I feel it's vital for me to explain how our patterns are drafted and what went into creating our size range.

Wearologie is a very new brand of sewing patterns.

While all the graphic and web design work is done by my very talented husband (www.loriskumo.com), everything else is done by me. This means I'm the one designing, drafting, grading, photographing, writing and promoting.

By definition, this small entreprise is truly a labour of love and one we're proud of.

However, hiring help isn't something we can financially consider right now, which means that every content created (be it a sewing pattern, the wardrobe workshop or even the photo shoots) takes a lot of time, patience and dedication. Slow fashion indeed!

Our size range (34-46) is based on Swiss ready-to-wear sizes and is the one I've learned at school. Sadly, I don't feel confident enough to draft for larger sizes and I feel that if I attempted this without proper training, I might end up with some poor quality patterns. And that is definitely not my goal for Wearologie.

So while I would absolutely love to extend our size range and it's definitely on my long term list of things to improve, I won't be able to do it right now.

Until that time comes, I'll try my best to find some help and good ressources on how to draft and grade to extend our offering. (Links and recommendations appreciated!)

I'm deeply sorry if your size isn't included in our patterns just yet, but know that we're doing everything in our power to change that.
